Wine Club Token Migration to Shopify

Maintaining Continuity, Security, and Member Experience

The Migration Strategy Transitioning your wine club to Shopify utilizes a Legacy Gateway Connector. This allows us to migrate member payment "tokens" from your previous processor into Stripe. This ensures your members stay active without needing to re-enter their credit card information. The Payment Flow (Visual Diagram)

Critical Technical Brief

  1. The "Dual-Payout" Reality Because tokens are migrated into Stripe, the payouts for charges against those tokens will come directly from Stripe. You will need to reconcile these against Shopify orders. New members (and existing members who update their card info) will be processed via Shopify Payments and paid out through Shopify.
  2. Integrated Order Management The "Legacy Gateway Connector" links Stripe to Shopify. This means: Refunds: Performed in Shopify (pushes to Stripe). Order Tracking: All sales data lives in Shopify for a single source of truth. Checkout Visibility: Stripe is used for back-end billing only; it will not appear as a selectable payment method for new customers.
  3. Fee Structure Stripe payment rates will apply to all club charges processed against the migrated tokens in the Stripe account. Shopify Payments rates apply to all new members.
  4. Long-Term Evolution As members eventually update their billing information or naturally churn, your Stripe dependency will decrease. This "Hybrid" state is the standard, secure path for migration, unless opting for Shopify’s internal Professional Services migration.

Reconciliation Checklist

✓ Cross-Reference: Match Stripe Payout reports with Shopify Order IDs.

✓ Gateway Tags: Use Shopify's "Gateway" filter in your Orders export to separate Stripe vs. Shopify Payments transactions.

✓ Customer Updates: Encourage members to update their billing in the customer portal to move them into the Shopify Payments ecosystem.
