Inventory settings (Updated)
The inventory settings update introduces enhanced inventory settings for better handling of out-of-stock items and order processing. These updates ensure smoother subscription management and minimize order interruptions.
Inventory has been been updated because of required changes from Shopify
Please review the changes to avoid order disruptions. After this date, outdated inventory settings will cause issues with sold-out item handling.
Key changes:
- Shopify no longer allows subscription orders to contain sold-out items, so we've deprecated the "allow oversold" option within our setting and replaced it with "Allow subscripition orders, but remove out-of-stock items from orders.
- Shopify no longer allows deleted products to be included into subscription orders, so we're releasing an bulk update tool to help you replace missing or deleted products from subscriptions. This bulk update tool will be released before the mandatory update to give users the ability to fix this issues easily.
Starting September 2024 there is an important update coming to Awtomic's inventory settings. This change may impact your current settings, so it is important to read the new functionality carefully and make sure you have the correct selection in your store.
Previously, it was possible to allow all orders to process regardless of inventory levels. This meant that subscription orders could be placed for products even if they were set to track inventory and the inventory levels were 0 or negative.
If you previously had a setting that allowed for overselling, this behavior will change. Shopify no longer will allow orders to be placed for products that do not have inventory if they are set to track inventory and not allow overselling.
New Functionality
If you previously had the setting in Awtomic "Allow subscription orders to be placed when out of stock" then you will now default to the option "Allow subscription orders but remove out-of-stock items from the order." This means that orders will be placed with any items that are in stock, but when items are out of stock they will not be in the order. They will remain in the subscription for subsequent orders. They will effectively be "skipped" for the order when they are out of stock.
If the subscription contains one item and that item is out of stock, then the subscription order will be held for inventory and no order will be placed. The system will retry once each day by checking the inventory levels. If you update inventory, then the subscriptions that were held for inventory for that item will bill the following day automatically. When the whole order is held, the customer will get the "held for inventory" email, which you can customize in the email section of the Awtomic app (in Settings).
Delay subscription orders
This setting will remain the same, and anyone who previously had this enabled will continue to have the same functionality. When the setting "Delay subscription orders when any item is out of stock" is selected, the whole order will be held if any one item in it is out of stock. The customer will receive the "delayed for inventory" email which you can customize in the email setting section of the app. Awtomic will check inventory levels once each day and bill any subscriptions where the inventory has been restored and every item in the order is in stock.
