Customer Birthdate

What it does

Adds a Date of birth section after the checkout contact section. Customers enter a date using a date field or separate year, month, and day selectors. When checkout blocking is enabled, customers must provide a valid birthdate meeting the configured minimum age.

Before you begin

Install Awtomic Subscriptions and use a store eligible for checkout-page extensions. These checkout placements require Shopify Plus on merchant stores. Awtomic also permits the birthdate setting on development stores; confirm the reviewer’s store supports the checkout target.

Birthdate capture must be enabled in Awtomic and Customer Birthdate must be added to the checkout configuration. Adding the block alone does not enable capture.

Set up birthdate capture

1. In Awtomic, open Settings → Integrations and the applicable compliance integration settings. The local app exposes this control in ShipCompliant, VinoCheck, and Avalara.
2. Find Age verification and turn on Capture birthdate in Shopify Checkout.
3. Review the minimum-age setting and save the integration settings. The extension falls back to 21 when no usable minimum age is supplied.
4. In Shopify admin, open Settings → Checkout, then edit the checkout configuration used by the storefront.
5. In the editor’s Apps sidebar, add Awtomic’s Customer Birthdate to checkout. It is assigned to the area after customer contact details.
6. Enable Use Dropdown Selects if you prefer separate year, month, and day inputs; otherwise leave it off for the date field.
7. In the block’s checkout behavior controls, allow checkout blocking if entering a valid qualifying birthdate should be required.
8. Save the checkout configuration. Verify that the storefront uses this configuration.

What the reviewer should see

A Date of birth heading, minimum-age message, and birthdate input near contact details. Without checkout blocking, the date-field label identifies the field as optional. The dropdown layout has separate Year, Month, and Day labels.

A customer’s existing birthday may populate automatically when the app has a supported saved birthday available. Use a fresh test customer when demonstrating manual entry.

Suggested test

1. Open standard storefront checkout with a test product.
2. Confirm the birthdate section appears.
3. With blocking enabled, leave the field empty and try to continue: an error should appear.
4. Enter an underage date and try to continue: progress should remain blocked.
5. Enter a valid date meeting the configured minimum age: this extension should permit progress.
6. Complete an authorized test order and verify the recorded birthday. The checkout attribute is customer_birthday.
7. Record the app setting, saved checkout block, visible field, and validation in the screencast.

If the section is missing

• Confirm capture is enabled and saved in Awtomic, not only added in Shopify’s editor.
• Confirm the correct checkout configuration contains Customer Birthdate.
• Check the contact area; this extension is not a shipping-section field.
• Confirm store eligibility. The capture toggle is disabled when Awtomic identifies the store as neither Plus nor a development store.
• Start with standard checkout. Check Shopify’s separate behavior controls before expecting the same behavior in Shop Pay.
