Card Vaulting
What it does
Card Vaulting intentionally has no visible widget, form, or button. It runs in the background during checkout and applies the configured vaulting selling plan to eligible one-time product variants.
The customer's payment details are entered through Shopify’s payment flow. Absence of an Awtomic panel is expected; successful configuration and the resulting purchase/payment behavior are what must be demonstrated.
This checkout extension is separate from the storefront Complete Order card-on-file button.
Before you begin
Install Awtomic Subscriptions and use an eligible checkout. Merchant stores need Shopify Plus for this checkout placement. Awtomic also enables the configuration controls on development stores.
Choose the specific product variants intended for card vaulting. The app describes this feature for hospitality-related one-time products such as event tickets or reservations.
Set up card vaulting
- In Awtomic, open Settings → Extras and find Vault cards.
- Turn on Vault card during checkout for one-time products. Wait for the success confirmation.
- Click Select product variants and choose the exact variants to include. Confirm the selection is saved.
- Optionally set a Display label and save it. The default label is One time purchase; the app describes this label as appearing beneath the product in checkout.
- Leave Discount on checkout off unless a discount is intended. If used, save the intended percentage.
- In Shopify admin, open Settings → Checkout and edit the configuration used by the storefront.
- In the Apps sidebar, add Awtomic’s Card Vaulting to checkout and save.
- Confirm the storefront uses that saved configuration.
What the reviewer should expect
No standalone Card Vaulting UI appears, even when the extension is working.
For a selected variant added as a one-time purchase, the extension attempts to attach the vaulting selling plan. It leaves unselected variants alone and skips lines that already have a selling plan.
Enabling Vault cards without selecting variants is insufficient. The extension also needs a valid configured selling plan.
Suggested test
- Enable the feature, select a test variant, and save the checkout block.
- Add that exact variant as a one-time purchase; do not start with a line already using another selling plan.
- Open standard checkout. Show the product’s configured purchase label where Shopify renders it; do not look for a separate vaulting panel.
- Verify that the expected vaulting selling plan was attached to the line. Awtomic can supply technical evidence if the checkout summary alone is inconclusive.
- Complete an authorized test purchase using a supported payment flow.
- Verify the expected saved payment method is available through the intended Awtomic/Shopify workflow. A selling-plan attachment alone is not proof that a reusable payment method was successfully stored.
- Repeat with an unselected variant to demonstrate that the feature is scoped to the chosen products.
Troubleshooting
- No visible widget: expected behavior.
- No change to the product line: confirm Vault cards is enabled, the exact variant is selected, and the block is in the active checkout.
- Variant is selected but nothing happens: check whether the line already has a selling plan; such lines are deliberately skipped.
- Configuration is correct but vaulting does not complete: investigate checkout cart-update errors and the payment flow. Do not infer successful vaulting solely from the lack of a visible error.
- Controls are unavailable: verify the store’s Plus/development eligibility as recognized by Awtomic.
