Setting up product keys in ShipCompliant
To successfully pass a compliance check with ShipCompliant, all products in your Shopify store—both alcoholic and non-alcoholic—must also exist in ShipCompliant, with matching identifiers.
Awtomic uses Shopify’s SKU field to match against ShipCompliant’s Product Key. If a product is missing or mismatched, your orders may fail compliance checks.
Awtomic will soon release a product sync tool to help bulk import/export products between Shopify and ShipCompliant. For now, all products must be added manually to both systems.
How Product Matching Works
- If a product exists in ShipCompliant, make sure that same product exists in Shopify with a matching SKU (same as ShipCompliant’s Product Key).
- If a product exists in Shopify, add it to ShipCompliant and set the Product Key to match Shopify’s SKU exactly.
- This must be done for all products, including swag, product inserts, non-alcoholic beverages, or anything else you sell.
Add or Update a Product in ShipCompliant
Step 1: Navigate to Products
In your ShipCompliant portal:
- Go to Setup → Products
Step 2: Create or Edit a Product
- Click “Add New” to create a product, or
- Click “Edit” next to an existing product to update it
Step 3: Fill Out Product Info
- Complete all required fields (marked in red)
- Set the Key to match the SKU you’ll use in Shopify
If the product doesn’t exist in Shopify yet, take note of the Key—you’ll use it as the SKU when creating the product in Shopify.

Add or Update a Product in Shopify
Step 1: Go to Products
- From your Shopify admin, go to Products in the left-hand menu
Step 2: Click “Add Product”
- Use the black “Add product” button in the top right
Step 3: Fill Out Product Info
- Complete all relevant fields for the product
- In the SKU field, enter the Product Key from ShipCompliant
If the product already exists in ShipCompliant, use its Product Key as the Shopify SKU.

Best Practices
- Double check that all products have a 1:1 match across both systems
- Don’t forget to include non-alcoholic items (e.g. insert cards or swag)
- When adding new products in Shopify, remember to update ShipCompliant at the same time
Common Issues
If a product fails to match, the Awtomic App Block will show a Product mismatch error and specify the SKU that’s missing in ShipCompliant.
You can resolve this by updating the product in ShipCompliant and then clicking “Recheck Compliance” on the Shopify order.
